Results from our Sept 17th, Derby held out of Cottonwood Cove on Lake Mohave.
We had another good turnout today for our 4th event of the season. There were 19 boats that showed up all hoping the fishing would be better than it has been the last couple of weeks. For most of the teams, fishing was somewhat better, and some teams wished they would have stayed home I’m sure.
5 teams were able to bring a 5 fish limit to the scales. There were also a couple of 4 fish limits that made the money, and one 5 fish limit that didn’t cash any money.
Starting with the smallest 5 fish limit which was brought in by last months 3rd place finisher Stephan Camden and his new partner Justin Campbell. They weighed 5 fish for 8.51 and snagged the $200 in cash sponsored by Mtn Pine Construction of Boulder City.
Coming in 5th place with one of the before mentioned 4 fish limits is the Dalby brothers, Lyle, and Dale. They had 4 fish that weighed 9.85 and took home cash of $200 sponsored by 24/7 Heating & AC. Hope to see you guys at our next event, thank you for coming up from Arizona today.
Clayton Meyer and Bryan Ledford had 10.04 to pick up 4th place and placed in the money with $300 in cash and they also won the mystery box of tackle sponsored by Get Out and Fish, USA (Richard Johnson) worth another $100.
This event included a new one-time option called “The US Open Option” a $50 option that was paid back 100% to the top 3 teams who chose to pay into this option. The 3rd place team of John Mackey and Russell Vansickle got a piece of this option by weighing in 4 fish that went 12.11. They also had the big fish of the day, a 4.38 Largemouth. Overall, John and Russell took home $994 in cash and prizes. They also won by raffle (2) 1-year annual ABA memberships.
The US Open Option paid them $65, big fish paid them $432, another $50 from B&E Auto, 3rd place money of $367 and the two annual memberships worth $40 each.
I think John said he had their 5th fish on at one time.
Gunnar Stanton fishing solo today as his partner had to work, picked up $995 for his 2nd place finish. Gunnar had a limit of 5 fish weighing 13.74. Gunnar was also in the US Open option which paid him $195, along with another $50 from B&E Auto and 2nd place money of $750 for his take home of $995. I’m sure Gunnar will put these funds to work gearing up for the upcoming Won Bass US Open on Lake Mohave.
Somebody has to win though, and that somebody was the team of Ryland Ogle and Asa Stephenson. They had a 5 fish limit weighing 14.82 anchored by the 2nd big fish of the day a 3.83 Smallmouth. That fish paid them $288, The US Open Option paid them $390, plus another $380 from the local ABA director sponsor, and top it all off 1st place money paid $1300 bringing their grand total to $2,358. Great job guys, sure does make up for those weeks when it’s tough as nails.

My assistant TD today really stepped it up and pretty much handled the entire setup and teardown of all our equipment, scales, banners, boxes, extension cords and everything else we pack to each event. Thank you Markus Avalos I appreciate all you do even after a not so good day fishing. It sucks not catching fish and your attitude afterwards does not reflect the results of not catching fish.
